to give you the correct information about what you can and cannot consume during pregnancy, including medications? If not why would you stay with him or her?

My doctor prescribes me codeine with tylenol for migraines during my pregnancy, people, and not just here, freak out about it and say that my doctor is wrong. I generally ask them how their medical credentials compare to my OB's. While I do believe that doctors are human and make mistakes just as we do, I also know that i would never see a doctor that I didn;t trust, I have been with this one for years, unless I had no choice. My doctor encourages me to ask questions about what is going on and what he is prescribing me so that i can leave his office well informed and with all the correct resources needed to do research on my own. so can you choose your doctor or do you have to go to the one your insurance plan says you have to?

My last question and the last answer prompted this one......

To be clear, I am NOT asking about the codeine, i have no reservations in using it, because I TRUST my doctor to do what is healthiest for me and my child, I am asking if you trust your doctor and if NOT why do you stay with them? Do you have a choice or do you have to do what your insurance plan says?

I have had 3 babies and pregnant now with twins all with the same 3 Drs I have been seeing for 8 years and I TRUST them. They have never steered me wrong. Your Dr is not wrong about meds that they are giving you. If you feel safe with them then thats all that matters. I was able to choose the Dr I wanted and I have Access which is government insurance.

I would not use codeine. In another question you just asked about your baby moving more after you take the Tylenol with codeine in it. I am confused because here in this question you say you are not going to take it? Whatever. I would not keep a Dr, if I felt he or she was giving me any advice I did not agree with. Lucky we have blue cross blue shield so we can go where we want and I would get a second opinion on anything I felt I wanted one for. If I did not have coverage like that for any high risk procedure I would still get a second opinion even if it cost more because of insurance reasons. If my kids are ever told that they need and operation I will get a second opinion just because Dr. do make mistakes. They are people to and human is to error.

I do trust my doc, but I don't always agree with him. Bottom line is that it's your body. I personally would be a little bit nervous about taking codeine while pregnant mostly because it is derived from the same plant as heroin. However, I know how horrible migraines can be (strangely enough, mine went away while I was pregnant) so if that is what gives you relief and your doctor believes it is safer for you and your baby than other solutions then go with it.

No one person is perfect, including your doctor. Codeine is not a good idea when you're pregnant, but if you're in a situation where you have to choose between the lesser of two evils, then what are you going to do? Get another opinion if it's bothering you, use it as infrequently as possible if you continue to need it. Some women have chemotherapy when pregnant because they HAVE to. We're not all lucky enough to be perfectly healthy and sometimes you have to weigh the risks and the benefits. You may want to check into alternatives though too. Chiropractor, acupuncture, massage, meditation....maybe something other than your medication will give you relief and spare the baby the side effects.

I stay with my doctor, but I do NOT always trust his opinion. If I was pregnant and my doctor told me to take tylenol with codine, I just wouldn't. Because I would worry too much about it. I would just stick to regular tylenol, or extra strength. Unless maybe the migrains are so awful you can't function, in which case it would be like ---- is it worth the risk? And I might concider it.

I have had the same Drs. for years and through my pregnancies..and I chose them not my insurance..I trust them 100%....They have never steered me wrong....And as for the tylenol with codiene, it is safe during pregnancy~ When I broke my rib at 6 months pregnant thats what they prescribed for me..I was hesitant to take it but after talking to some family members which are Drs..I found out that it is safe to take...
