This is your sons child? and they are divorced or split up right?
He needs to contact an attorney about getting visitation rights, He also needs to start making support payments so she cant come back on him later. I would have DNA ran just as paper work in the court.

He needs to do this since she has a mental condition so he can make sure the baby is safe. If he is paying support and getting visitation rights she has to let him know changes of address or phone.

If he just gives her money she can swear in court 5 years from now that he hasnt gave her a dime. Most judges call any money before an order a gift. Then he will owe support plus back pay...... She sounds unstable enough to do that

Most states DONT have grandparents rights.

It is unfortunate but the best way to secure your son's rights as a Father is to go through the courts. They can make arrangements for visitation for him plus enable him to pay child support.
I know you could sit with her parents and come to some kind of an arrangement but it is truly better to have it done through the courts for your own sanity. I wish you luck and congratulations on your new granddaughter.

Is there anyone on her side of the family that you could talk with? A friend? Maybe talk with her dr. and let the dr. know that you want to be there to be of help for the baby? I wish you all the best on this. Take care.

You need to discuss this with her parents. Your son has rights to that baby and with a sick mom the child may need him. If the parents are not sympathetic go to the court-establish paternity with a test.
