frames can be straightened time is the problem it takes 2 hours to set the frame up and measure it. After that timeto straighen it
can take from 1 to 16 hours. Some bent frame repairs can be done in 2-3 hours. its all about time and money. frame labor us usually $55.00 - $65.00 per hour on a $50,000.00 - $1000,000.000 machine and a $75,000.000 laser frame measureing machine. For the most (for the most) it depends on how much the frame moved and where it is bent.
I have repaired frames for as little as $200.00

My parents used to own an automotive business that included frame straightening. From my experience working with the guys at the shop, I have to say that yes it can be repaired back to the same way it was yet exact same is hard to do. If you have someone with the right equipment and knows what they are doing, it can be done. As far as weather or not to get rid of the vehicle, I would say it depends on what type of vehicle it is and how bad it is bent. It is very costly to have a frame straightened by someone that knows what they are doing. Make sure the car is worth it. Then there is also a good chance indeed, that it could never be the same as others have answered, causing lots of nickle & dime stuff, over time. Tire wear would be most noticeable. In the case of an 85 Suburban, my opinion is that its probably not worth it.

Is it cheaper to repair a bent frame on a vehicle or to just sell it and get a new car?

It would depend on how bad the frame is bent take it in to a couple of shops that do frame straightening for an estimate providing the body is in great shape .Or another alternative is changing frames (actually not as hard as it sounds) I think you can go up to an 88 frame but don't quote me on that cross match books tell for sure (junk yards use them as a bible) .

A non professional opinion here... either get a new frame and body, or give it up. Once a frame has been bent, it will NEVER be the same.

I saw where someone said you will have uneven tire wear.. not only that.. uneven brake wear.. etc... If you want to put the money into a new frame/chasis.. then go for it.. other wise.. cut your losses...

repairing a bent frame rarely comes back to normal, you'll have extra wear on your tires. so those will have to be replaced sooner than expected along with alignments, balancing and so forth.
ditch it, get another.
