Is Cat6e the same thing as Cat5e? Explain.

Cat 5 is certified for 100MHz transmission. Cat6 for transmissions up to 250MHz. Both cables can be used up to 1000MBit/s (1GBit/s) but Cat6 has a better transmission quality and can be used for longer distances. For Home Networks Cat5 is more than enough.

No, it's a better cable that allows higher transfer speeds. However you really don't need it at all unless you're doing some kind of ultra high speed sensitive application. Cat5 is all you need.
