I prune mine to keep it from going crazy. When I keep it trimmed, it grows more full with more flowers. Try pruning it and if you don't like what happens, it will surely grow back. :)

You don't have to but it helps to keep the little bugger in control...those vines can get under house siding and pull it right off the walls. So if it is near any structures you will need to check it regularly...some varieties also send out underground runners that will strangle a shrub if it gets established.

I would cut it back to the ground in the fall. This is a very hard plant to kill. It will take over the area it's planted it so be careful. If you need to control it cut back where needed.

depends on whether you want the rugged look or not, if you want to keep them neat and tidy and in the place you want them - not where they want to grow you will need to do this a couple of times a year
