I am looking at a used saddle that I might buy. I rode in it today, and it is so comfortable.
The only problem is that it has some minor cracking above the knee pads. Is it possible for these cracks to be repaired by a saddle repair shop? I am going to use the saddle for showing.
Thanks!

The rest of the leather is in good condition. It is a very goos price, and an expensive brand name. I couldn't find anything on the internet about fixing these cracks, only how to prevent them.

The reason for the cracks is because the leather is drying out..Use saddle soap to clean the leather..ten when dry..put dubbin on it is a protective gel like stuff that stops leather from drying and it keeps it supple..do this once a month.. and with normal leather polish (not furniture polish) with beeswax..should keep the saddle in good condition..

Unfortunately, the cracks are a sign of dry, poorly cared for leather. You can clean, oil, and condition the saddle as often as you like, but the cracks are going to remain. That's why it's so important to take proper care of your tack. Now, if you really devote yourself to the proper conditioning of the leather, you could probably keep the cracks from growing much larger. At the same time, for all that aggravation, you might as well try to find a different saddle in better shape. And if you're planning on showing in it, you definitely don't want to appear in a competition (especially if you're doing hunters or equitation, where turn out is key) with a saddle in obvious disrepair. Keep looking, I'm sure you'll find something both comfortable and functional.

No you should find a new saddle because the cracks will just get worse then you'll have to buy a different saddle besides, if they judge your tack at a show you'll get points taken off.

Yes, but after you get it fixed you'll need to keep it well oiled and conditioned so it doesn't crack again. If your going to use it for showing, and this is the only thing wrong with it, I would go ahead and get it and try to repair and recondition it. It seems worth it if it's a reasonable price.
