I am 19 weeks pregnant and have been craving the filet of fish sandwich from McDonalds. I am not sure whether it is safe to eat while pregnant. Does anyone know of reasons it should be avoided? i know some fish is safe to eat during pregnancy but i assume McDonalds does not use the highest quality seafood and i dont know if mercury content should be of concern.

Those sandwiches(with extra tartar sauce LOL) were one of my biggest cravings during my last pregnancy. My midwife said that it was fine to eat....but because it isn't the healthiest(gotta love fried stuff) to limit it to once a week. Go enjoy that Filet-O-Fish!

I know this question is from 7 years ago, but I'm going to answer anyhow .... When I was pregnant with my now 8 year old, I had a craving for McDonalds filet-o-fish and ate them almost every day for the entire pregnancy. My 8 year old is very smart. She is in 2nd grade and the tests that they give her at school says that her Math and Reading level is at 4th grade. She is the tallest kid in her class, always has been. The only problems medically is she has a huge birthmark on her right foot and leg and she has Celiac disease - so she has to eat Gluten free. I don't know what role the filet-o-fish eating while pregnant played in any of this - I'd say it's harmless in moderation.

I ate tons of fish sandwiches with baby #3! What's up with that? I would say McDonald's fish is perfectly safe as long as you're not eating nothing but. It's usually locally caught lake and river fish with the toxins. Ocean fish are a safer bet. Keep in mind they are deep fried and covered in fat (tartar sauce is mayo), so don't indulge too much.

When you go into a fast food place and they no longer have a promotion going there is no need to get huffy and get mad at the manager. They are not the ones that make the rules. I absolutely HATE it when someone comes into the MC Donald's where I work and they get mad because we no longer have the 2 for $2 sausage egg muffins. Remember when you see these ads they DO say "Limited time offer" and or "Participation may vary". Not all Mc Donald's have the same promotions. The one I work at doesn't have the Angus burger, and we also do not have the 39 cent ice cream cones.

Only 4 types of fish pose problems for pregnant women. Most fish, in limitation, are safe in pregnancy and should be part of your regular, balanced diet. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning that four types of fish should not be eaten in pregnancy (and also while nursing) because they could contain enough mercury to damage a fetal brain. Mercury enters the environment naturally and through industrial pollution. Nearly all fish contain trace amounts of methylmercury, but longer-lived, larger fish that feed on other fish, such as shark or swordfish, accumulate the highest amounts of methylmercury and pose the greatest threat to people who eat them regularly.

The fish that should not be eaten during pregnancy, according to the FDA, include:

* Shark
* Swordfish
* King mackerel
* Tilefish

Mcdonald's uses whitefish in it's sandwich- wich may include cod, whiting, haddock, hake or pollock

i read that's its okay to eat fish 1 or twice a week so it would probably be okay but because its from McDonald's then it should only be once a week. But if you skip a week it doesn't mean you can eat two the next week. Hope it helps and good luck :)

It's okay to eat some fish. There are some fatty acids and essential oils that are actually good for brain development that can only be found from fish. The McDonalds fish sandwich is made out of pollock and cod which have relatively low levels of mercury. Stay away from top-of-the-foodchain fish like tuna, swordfish, shark, etc. because those have the most amounts of mercury in them.

It is fine. Just don't eat them everyday. Treat yourself to one. Like one a week, or one every 2 weeks, or one a month. I ate McDonalds when iw as pregnant.. and my son is just fine. We all know that NONE of their stuff is 'real' meat or whatever, and it's all bad for you lol.... but your pregnant, live a little... your little one will be fine!

McDonalds fish is pulled from waters in Vietnam. There are no water quality standards there.

You should avoid that at all costs. Make your own with a fish fillet from the freezer section of the grocery store, some rolls, cheese and tartar sauce (I like lettuce too).

I craved that exact same thing as well. One of my favorite fast food items.

As long as you don't crave them for every meal everyday it should be ok for a once in a while thing.
