I ask questions because I want an answer or am actually looking for a response from people. I have heard some people say they just want the points and don't care about the answers. Why? It's not like you're going to win a million dollars if you get to a certain level.

No, but Yahoo Answers sometimes gives out free stuff as a promotion; and the more points you have, the better stuff you can get. Other people just like to feel smart.

I am so with you, though. I answer questions mostly because I want to help people.

(Just FYI, though, you actually lose points by asking things here. Also, one of the benefits of having a certain number of points is that it increases how many posts you can make, as well as which kinds.)

I hated it when I was at the lower levels and was on a roll answering questions and got shut down. Now that I'm at level 4 and can answer several questions a day, it doesn't bother me any more. If they are higher than level 4 and do it, they are just point crazy.

If I have a question I need an answer for then I will ask without a thought for the points. But I must admit that I do like to watch the points builds up. Why? Well I don't have much of a life.

I am concerned with the points because I'm trying to work my way up high enough to answer unlimited questions. I really enjoy asking questions, and I would like to have enough points in order to reach a higher level and be able to participate more.

The logic or drive to log lots of points escapes me, however, I can understand a certain pride in & striving for a larger percentage of one's answers being voted "best". I'm with you, though, I ask because I want opinions, responses, &/or real answers, and I respond to the best of my knowledge, or give a sincere opinion--except when I'm being a smart-*** ;)

For myself, I don't care about the points, I am completely obsessed with answering questions. But in order to answer more questions, I need more points, so I have to get as many as possible because I'm so freakin obsessed with answering!

They are just yanking your chain as they often ask questions themselves and each question asked costs you 5 points. Usually they have no answer for what you asked but it did catch their attention so they give you the old "Here I am - Give me the Points" The way yahoo charges for the "next teir" of "free" services and is bundled with a proliferation of ads, they should have enough cash to give a billion to the first one to (_________) points.

When you ask questions you lose points! I think people like getting points because they like the challenge.
