It seems longer. If there's usually 4 weeks in a month then 40 weeks would be 10 months. I know that every month isn't the same but still, I think it's longer than 9 months that a woman is pregnant. Just curious what others think.

This is a pretty confusing issue for a lot of pregnant women, the answer to your question is yes. For example when you're in your 5th week of pregnancy, you are 4 weeks pregnant! During the week you start your period, you are in your first week of pregnancy, but you have not yet completed any weeks so you are zero weeks pregnant. Think about it this way — you don't say that a baby is one year old during his first year of life do you? He is not considered to be one year old until he's actually in his second year.

Well, considering that doctors count your pregnancy from the first day of your last period, when you weren't pregnant yet...and you ovulate about 2 weeks after that, you're really only pregnant for 38 weeks. And february is the only month that's exactly 4 weeks. The rest are almost 4 weeks and 2 or 3 days. Do 9x4 and you get 36. Then add another 2-2 1/2 weeks for the extra days in each month. And you get about 38, which is how many weeks you are actually pregnant.

Yes a pregnancy lasts 40 weeks taking you into 10 months. But that is going by the last day of your cycle and you dont get pregnant until 2 weeks later. So when you are 4 weeks preg your baby is really only 2 weeks. But when you are 4 weeks pregnant (by LMP) you are actually IN your 5th week because you are fully 4 weeks and working on your 5th week. I know its very confusing. So you are kinda REALLY only pregnant for 38 weeks. And 38 divided by 4 is 9 and a 1/2 months.

i was thinking the same thing. i am happy because i will be almost 5 months, and all of a sudden i noticed that i have another 5 months pregnant, not 4months.
i guess we just have to stick to it. like everyone said, they start counting from your last of your period, when you are not even pregnant. if you are 8 weeks in reality you are only 6 weeks pregnant or depending when you ovulate.
but yes you are right. we are 10 months pregnant not 9 months. and they seem like 10 years not months. time goes so slowly.

I agree, totally!!! I remember thinking the same thing when I was preggy!

It especially kinda gets to you that folks call it nine months, when you are pregnant...and time is passing sooo slowly!

Yeah, I know calendar months sometimes have five weeks....but, I think you are right. Technically, there are four weeks to a month.......so the basic math of it....4 x 10 = 40 weeks.....does make it 10 months!

At least, in my book it does!

You are right; a normal, haelthy, pregnancy should last 40+ weeks which is 10 months. I know because I'm currently pregnant and is in my 35 weeks of my pregnancy.

Yep, you're right. 40 weeks is 10 months. I don't get it why they don't just say that you are pregnant for 10 months.
