They are hybrids. Most serious cichlid hobbyists are against this practice. By hybridizing fish, we run the risk of losing the "true" species of cichlids. It is also considered "playing God" by some. Why would we need to create a new species, when there are so many beautiful species to be found in nature?

Flower Horn Cichlids are farm raised in the USA and are the result of crossbreeding different Central American cichlids. A Midas is a type of true cichlid and Flower Horns are also cichlids, but they are a mix, of which specific types it is not known, or at least released as general public knowledge. So, no, a Flower Horn cichlid is not a Midas cichlid.

No, they are hybrids of various cichlids - the secret to which species were included in their design was never released as far as I know, but Midas is one of the possibilities in the mix.
