I am practicing for the SAT's, and I have a CD rom which I did on the computer. I was wondering if a score of 1160 was bad or not.

If the test was the old SAT, an 1160 is close to an average score. Whether or not it is good or bad depends on what school you are trying to get into and what the rest of your school resume looks like.

If that was the new SAT, an average score is going to be around 1500. Below average is probably not good, but again, it depends on the college.

The practice tests showed me scoring in the 1100s and after taking an actual SAT class, I scored in the 1300s- 1100 isn't ivy league, but it'll do just fine for a public (or even many private) university.

Are you referring to the old (1600) SAT or the new (2400) SAT? On the old SAT, 1160 isn't bad. It should get you into good state universities. It all depends on your extracurriculars, volunteering, sports, etc. If its 1160 out of 2400, please take it again if you can.

Hi,

You don't mention what your individiual scores are or if you are taking the old or the new test.

However, a top score is 1600 on the old test and is divided equally between math and verbal.

On the new test, the top score is 2400 and it is diivided into three sections.

Based on that information, you might be able to decide if your current score is good enough for you.

Not in my book. It depends on how competitive the school is that your applying. I didn't break 1000 went to a highy competitive university and still got straight A's and B's. I was mostly accepted because I was a well rounded student and I had good grades overall. I wouldn't kill myself trying to get a 1400 it makes no nevermind when it comes down to it.
