When my mother-in-law called me and her other daughter-in-law "backstabbers" at Christmas. We were talking privately about another family member's drinking problem and how we could help. She just overheard part of the conversation and thought be were bad-mouthing this family member, when we were just discussing what the problem had come to and what could be done. My husband jumped all over her for calling us that - and that left me completely speechless, too.

This is an interesting question. I'll be interested in the responses you get. Say, tell us the last time you were left speechless....

Not me, but my cousin rendered her father speechless (a hard feat to accomplish, he's full blown Irish). She came home with her friend Jenny with their report cards. Jenny, whose father is a doctor, got straight A's while my cousin got the occational B-. My uncle went off in a rage. Now you must understand she was in sixth grade elementary school. He yells at her, "Why don't you get better grades like Jenny does?" My cousin stared at him and cooly replies, "Why don't you get a better paycheck like Jenny's dad?" He couldn't say anything for the next half an hour! A record!

When I saw my sister in her wedding dress for the first time.

Runner-up: my mother-in-law, when I proposed to her daughter.

I was in my fiancee's bedroom, door closed, on one knee, holding an engagement ring. I took a deep breath, and just as I was about to begin my speech (which I'd been rehearsing over and over for three hours) she knocked on the door and said, "Are you in there?"

Of course, in that instance, I was speechless because I was laughing so hard. And my lovely bride said, "Ahh ... Mom ... we need a minute here!"

not me, but when i finished delivering ice to my patients with the ice cart and left the ice cart where i always leave it, the other aide said to me,"why did you leave it there", and mind you she knows i always leave it there, so being the smart *** i am, i said,"to piss you off, did i do it?" she just stood there and staired for the longest time, i think looking for the words, but could not find them
