Some 14.1" screens are widescreen, some are standard. The way you can tell is by looking at your screen's maximum resolution. Divide the width by the height. For example, a 1400x1050 screen would be 1400:1050, or a 4:3 aspect ratio. 4:3 is considered a standard aspect ratio. A widescreen aspect ratio would be more like 16:9 or 16:10.

yes they do usually, measure from the top corner of the screen to the bottom corner in a diagonal, it should be 14.1" roughly. Widescreen is mainly for watching movies on the screen and giving a better viewing angle when you look at the screen from an angle. You will find when you move away from a laptop sometimes the screen gets darker etc.

Fot widwscreen" read "skinny screen", or "long and thin screen". I cannot see any advantage in having one!! Who wants to view things through a slit ??!! It is simply fashionable because of advertising hype. The truth is, they can probably manufacture them much more cheaply!! Now I will sit back and watch all the irate "converted" attempting to show the "advantages" of "widescreen"
