I had a local company build me a website, that is now out of business. They did, and when they hosted it, they put it under their name. Now my site is down because it's 1 year is up and it needs to be renewed. Problem is the site is under the company's owner name and he is no where to be found. Is there something thatI can do to get my web name back, or am I going to lose it? Thanks!

You are going to lose your domain name for a little while, but after that it will be available again for you to register.

Are they still hosting your website or you have your website set up now in another server?

If they are still currently hosting your website, do you have access to the hosting account?

If you have access to the hosting account, maybe you should just register another domain name and then make your current webpage redirect to the new domain name which is hosted in another server and when your old domain name is available again you can just register it again and park on your new domain name.

Try to deal directly with the company that registered your domain name and explain the situation, perhaps they can hold the domain for you until the renewal period has expired and they will register it in your name. (I had the same problem trying to transfer a domain for a client I built a new website for)

I'd suggest that you try to get a hold of the owner and ask about this. Also, why not try to register your domain with another company?

If he hasn't paid it for a year then your domain name will go back up for sale so then you can just buy it again and make sure you register it in your name

Hope this helps....
