Babies are easily stirred. Try starting a routine (like giving him/her a bath near bedtime). Also try creating white noise (with a machine or humidifier). Maybe run a hot shower and let the warm steam lull the baby to sleep. Congrats!

Some babies have more trouble adjusting to being in the world than others. If your baby is a newborn or still very new, there are some things you can try. Take the baby outside in the sunlight for a few minutes every day. This helps them to adjust their internal clock. Another thing is to keep the baby awake for several hours before bedtime. This is hard to do, I know, since you're already sleep deprived and probably grateful if he/she sleeps any time, but try it if you can. Finally, you can take the baby to bed with you. Don't put the baby under the covers between you and your husband -- that could result in suffocation. We had a folding carrier that was about 16" wide and maybe 32" long. We put our baby to bed in that between us. If he woke up he could tell we were right there, so he'd go back to sleep unless he needed to be fed or changed.

Be patient -- in a few months your baby will be sleeping through the night and doing something ELSE that drives you nuts!

Good luck and I hope this works for you.

Well you don't say how old, but presumably the baby is old enough that it's reasonable to expect it to sleep through the night (say, four months old or more). My guess without more information is that you are getting up and giving the baby attention when it cries, be it a bottle or rocking or whatever manipulation y ou use to get it back to sleep. Stop doing that, and your baby will sleep through the night. It will take 3-7 nights for the baby to "get it". It will be no fun, but at the end of that time you and your baby and your whole family will be much happier.

How old is your baby? Until they are about six months old they're stomachs are too small to hold enough food to last more than a few hours, and therefore need to awaken to eat several times during the night. After six months they should be able to go five to six hours with out eatting (some lucky mothers have babies that will go up to eight or ten). Breast fed babies need to be fed more often because it is easier to digest than formula. If your baby is over six months and wakes up more that once then set a bed time and nap time schedule. Babies about six months need about two naps of one to two hours each during the day. More and they will be too awake to sleep and less will make them too exausted to sleep. Set a bed time routine at night so that he or she knows that bed time is comeing. Bath, changing into Pjs, reading a book or singing a song, then bed time. During the night when he or she wakes up, rock him or her back to sleep or play some music. Feeding him or her should be used as a last resort. When a baby (again over six months) becomes accustomed to nursing back to sleep during the night they grow to expect it). Once your baby can get back to sleep with out being fed then wean them from needing to be picked up by just comforting him or her while in their crib until they are asleep. After this is accomplished you can wean him or her from needing your presence at all. This is accomplished by putting your baby in their crib to sleep while they are still awake, with out you being there. After a few nights (longer depending on how strong willed your baby is) you should see a dramatic improvement. He or she will soon be sleeping through the night.
Good Luck and Good Night.

we need more info - how old, mainly. My daughter was about 11 months when she started sleeping through, that's fairly typical, though some people get lucky...

they're in a phase where they sleep during the day and stay up at night

they wake up when their tummy's empty. when they are little, their tummies aren't big enough to hold enough milk to tide them over for the night (only the size of their fist). when they get bigger their tummies get bigger and you can feed them more at night.
