doubt it. that should have been brought to your attention when you had the survey done for the house.

The lamppost is within your boundary. They own the lampost not you. They OWN the Ground the lamp is in not you and they can have access to repair and maintain it even against your wishes.
You can apply for possession of this piece of 'turf' but then you will end up with the cost of repairs and maintenance, You will then have to pay the council for the re-installation of 'suitable lighting' in this area and that can amount to £600 - £790 per post per light, then there is materials, contractors wages, repairs to the road surface for cable installation, Records amendment at council offices..... To cut a long story short Total cost = £1,500 - £2,000. Can you afford that much?
Is it worth it for the hassle?
Me, I'd leave it .....
This may not be what you want to hear but......

Are you in the UK? Was the lampost there when you bought the property? If so, you haven't got a leg to stand on and you should raise the issue with your surveyors who should have pointed this out to you when you purchased the property.

most likely the town has an easment to the lampost. you don't always own what you think you do. i own 3 acres, but my township has legal easements to my property from the centerline of the road to 25 feet onto my property. i would'nt fight it, you'll probably be dis appointed.

They certainly have a right to access it but you will need a lawyer to look deeper into it if you want to force them to move it, much will depend on if there is something about it in the deeds to your property.

That's going to cause you a load of hassle. They can take your house away if it's in the way of progress. It's big brother stuff, so leave it alone.

If its the light thats the problem keep shooting it out and blame the vandals, they might get fed up of repairing it and rake it down.

You should count yourself lucky they don't force you to pay for the electricity it uses.

A UK streetlamp (standard sodium one) uses about 5pence of electricity per night = £18.25 per year.
