Christmas in England is the nearest thing to Hell on Earth.
Everyone buys each other presents they cannot afford, and spends the rest of the year paying off the debt.
Money is wasted on rich, unhealthy food. Then people are forced to spend the day with contrary relatives, resulting in an acrimonious argument.

it is all money orientated the shops put out all there christmas goods beginning september then if you want to buy anything special the day before christmas and you go to woolworths you cant because they have taken the christmas stuff off the shelves and replaced it with easter eggs, the best thing to do is lock yourself away with loved ones and enjoy the holiday time usally two or three days off work then when it is over everyone breathes a huge sigh of relief and starts planning the next christmas, where are you from what is christmas like for you i hope you still have the spirit of christmas where you are, best wishes xxx

Boring unless you can curl up with a loved one without being disturbed.
Oh and having chronic indigestion from the food, drink and snacks. Some really interesting / rubbish presents from relatives and friends. Poor Tv, bad films, silly christmas carols and annoying people who do not know when to go home if they come around.
Positive side, the only two days off a year I am assured of, well for now.

Christmas is, I think, universal in focus in UK, Canada, Oz, and the USA. Really I think it is the same anywhere there is a Christian influence of the Anglican sort.
Mrs Badgrumble also added the important thing with the secularisation of Christmas: It is more and more commercial every year, at least in my locale.

well, the commercial side of xmas in the UK starts as soon as halloween has finished ! all the shops get their decorations out, and u can't turn on the tv / radio without hearing or seeing an advert for toys and other xmas related stuff. it tends to be a stressful time of year for a lot of people, mainly due to the financial strain of trying to create a 'perfect' xmas. the main shopping centres in the towns and cities are packed with people armed with bulging bags and empty wallets. a few years ago i worked in a shop over xmas time, and i can safely say that xmas brings out the worst in people. they tend to be very rude and pushy. all they can think about are their own little lives and problems.... i swore after that year that i'd never work in a shop at xmas time again if i could possibly help it ! the main part of xmas is usually ok - people tend to calm down a bit once all the buying is out of the way. most people in the uk spend xmas eve / xmas day and boxing day with their loved ones.... i spent mine with my son and my close family this last year. by the way - if u don't know what boxing day is (my american friend didn't!) that's the 26th of december. it's called Boxing day because a long time ago, the richer people and the skilled craftsmen in this country used to donate gifts wrapped up in boxes to the poor. the week between xmas and new year is usually spent visiting relatives and friends, and recovering from all that over eating ! new year's eve is mainly spent with friends and family, and a lot of people see it as an excuse to drink themselves to the point of unconciousness, and welcome in new year's day with the hangover from hell ! many people also have a big traditional luch / dinner on new years day - again, it's usually with close friends and family...... and that tends to be the end of it ! personally, i am glad by the time the 2nd of january comes around... with all the big build-up to xmas, i'm ready to get back to some normality ! (o - and the weather tends to be cold and wet - and we don't get a lot of daylight hours... it's dark by 4pm)

Christmas in England is knowing that wherever you are, somewhere near you there is a shop run by an asian family who will sell you a loaf of bread and six cans of lager on Christmas day.

The family getting together, fun, laughter, sat together at the table enjoying the food, playing party games. The gift giving part is a bonus.

Yeah, every year the bloody church force their opinions down our throats. And I am sick of it! If I had my way I would go to work on that day just to avoid the crap TV and even worse food.
