I had a miscarriage in December 2004, but then conceived and had a perfectly healthy son in October 2005. I am now pregnant and due on October 27 which makes me 5 weeks pregnant. How likely am I to miscarry? I am extremely worried.

A past miscarriage does represent a heightened risk of it happening again. However, since your son is perfectly healthy, it's FAR from highly likely. I suggest you're very very careful, eat healthy, rest easy, and do not touch a single cigarette, drop of alcohol or caffeine. They all heighten the risk of miscarriage. If possible, avoid any unnecessary unnatural substances like paracetamol too. And even natural ones like weed :P but this should all go without saying whether you're at risk of miscarrying or not. Please try not to worry too much, stress isn't a positive factor in any pregnancy. Remind yourself you have a very healthy baby boy and are fully capable of doing it again.

I can't say how likely you are to miscarry again but I can tell you I miscarried twice before my first child and then when I got pregnant with my 2nd I was very nervous but everything went great and I have 2 healthy, wonderful children now. My Dr. told me with both of them to just enjoy the experience, worrying wasn't good for me or the babies and as long as I did what I could to stay healthy that's all I could control. A lot of times they can't even tell you why you miscarried. Good luck and try not to worry too much.

I don't think you have an increased risk of miscarriage until you have had at least three. Research suggests up to 40% of pregnancies end in miscarriage and most are before women even know they were pregnant.

The best thing you can do for your baby is to be confident that you are healthy and think positive thoughts.

One (or even two m/c's) will not make your odds go up. They only make you freak out and worry that much more. Think positively. And try not to stress about it--which I know is easier said than done. I suggest you talk to your DR about your fears. They may be able to take you sooner and maybe you can get an u/s---to put your fears behind you.

Don't stress, if it is going to happen there is nothing you can do to prevent it. Miscarriages happen for reasons meaning the baby is not compatiable with life. Talk to your OB about your concerns. After 12wks you can relax a little. I know I wont really relax until 24wks. Good luck!!!

The chances are that you wont. Miscarriage is commen in pregnancy number 1, and as you have had a sucsesful one you should be fine. Dont worry.

I don't know how likely or not you will have another one, but just trust that whatever happens happens for a reason. I know it's a scary time but just give your fears to God.

"For we know that God works for the good of those who love Him and are called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28

God bless you and your family
