I have looked at some universities, but are there any other ways to get into things like this? I'm living in the UK, also can anyone reccomend some universities that I may have not considered? Thanks!

I'm afraid I can't really reccomment universities in the UK, except for The University of East Anglia. Here in the states, however, I can reccommend Columbia, USC, and UCLA just as a start. Independant films are a good way to get your foot in the door, and it's not as hard to get involved as it is big-budget and you can work your way up. But yes, studying the craft (either at university or on your own) is the way to start.

You could always start bugging the hell out of studios and production companies and stuff. Apparently it's all about who you know, but a friend of mine makes puppets for films like Corpse Bride and he got in through doing a course - not sure where, sorry. The BBC are always on the look out for people and that might be a good way in. Try writing to them and other TV channels and the people I mentioned above. It's worth a go and the worse that can happen is they say no, or ignore you, so no biggy. Go for it. Good luck

Just make your own movies and put them on Youtube. If there good enough try and make a short.
Thats how all the big movie directors started by funding and making there own movies (not the Youtube bit though)
