A book report is a summary of the book.

Your teacher wants to know if you read the book and how well you read it. Your summary/report should include the "theme" or basic ideas in the book. Also, the plot- it is fiction. Who were the main characters? What was the premise/plot of the book? Was there any action? What problems did the protagonist (the lead character) face?

If it is nonfiction (real life stuff), you will still need to state the premise of the book. What was the author trying to say? Did he/she do it well? Did you understand what the author was trying to do? Was it easy to understand? or too complicated? Did the author give good examples to support his/her points?

That's what a good book report will contain. Make it interesting.
Don't just copy the synopsis (the books description on the jacket pages). The teacher will know you copied.
