Short answer: No.
Long answer: I wonder how many good writers actually have a favorite. When you read enough books, reading for writing purposes, you realize that nearly every writer has something they do that someone else does better. You can read John Cheever for great characterization, but certainly not for a riveting plot. You can read Dan Brown for a fun story, but it doesn't hold as much literary power as Charles Dickens.
You can have a favorite, so long as you don't strive to be just like them. You need to have your own original techniques and style, and you need to realize that it is unlikely that any author ever mastered every single element involved in the writing process. So have a favorite or not, but you must read a variety and learn from everything you read.
Good luck!

No, you don't have to like a certain writer to be a good writer, maybe your the kind of person who just likes to write in general and doesn't have a person they like better than the other.

Definately not. I consider myself a decent writer and I do not have a favorite writer. I find certain writers inspiring and I draw from them for "writing energy". It helps to know what style of writing you like, your pace, your dialogue style. There is always room for imrpovement. Read all types and styles of writers to help gain a broad perspective.

Anyone who has good taste has developed their powers of discrimination. Of course they have read writers they feel are better (or more in line with their own perceptions) than others. And there's always one who stands out. Hence, a favorite.

nope... you like a write according to you what you like your experiences... to like a writer is to just get to know the writing style and a little experience from the book so that hope that you would not do the same mistake...

No, of course not. If you had to, you would probably not want to write any of your own stuff because you were too caught up in the other author's writing; or you would be so critical of your own stuff that you still wouldn't write anything. But it does help :)

No. If someone became a good writer and claimed he had no inspiration from others of his craft, I'd say his "tongue was forked."

You do not really need to have a favourite, but it definitely helps if you read quite a bit!

No, but if you are not a voracious reader, you will never become a good writer.
