I don't think it would work here.

Look at Norway They have a King a democratically elected Congress and a socialist society. But they have something America doesn't have Money. Lots of North see oil money.

Norway is rich enough they can be a leisure class society.

America is vastly in debt has no product and no centralized ideology. Socialism could never work here.

Plus we are headed for a civil war.

The two terms have come to be interchangeable in modern usage. I think a better question is whether or not socialism is permissable under our constitution?

I don't think you can really support our constitution in a literal manner and seriously consider that socialism and our constitution can exist at the same time.

Our constitution recognizes what no other constitution ever written even considers. The fact that ALL powers and ALL rights are those inherently OWNED by the people. And that the government may only have and exercise those powers given in by the people in our constitution.

Socialism considers that ALL powers, all rights (and all wealth for that matter) is OWNED by a central government and only the government determines how the power, rights and wealth is distributed amongst the people.

I can hardly envision two philosophical beliefs to be more diametically opposed.

Socailism is gaining ground in America BECAUSE of the misguided faith of the American people in the concept that democracy is the best path to freedom for all when in fact a socialist KNOWS that democracy is the best path to achieving total control of all powers, rights and wealth by denegrating the people enough that they think that the governments true purpose is to "take care of them".

I don't know whether or not you are a socialist or a proponent of democracy...or a constitutional federalist. I hope the latter for the first two are the "death by a thousand cuts" but the same objective as the "communist revolution".

First of all the US is not a democracy , so no it would not work see this below out of an American Civics Book

In most modern republics the head of state is termed president. . In republics the head of state is appointed as the result of an election. This election can be indirect, such as if a council of some sort is elected by the people, and this council then elects the head of state.( the electoral college) In these kinds of republics the usual term for a president is in the range of four to six years. In some countries the constitution limits the number of terms the same person can be elected as president.

If the head of state of a republic is at the same time the head of government, this is called a presidential system (example: United States).

See how important an education is ???????????
A democracy is when all voting of laws ,and bills are conducted in a town hall like meeting where all citizens gather to vote directly hence the term as above "mob rule", which the US does not do , we elect officials to represent us which is the way it was from the beginning ,due to most Americans not having the basic knowledge of law making ,and conducting the business of this country , so we elect others to act on our behalf....thus a Republic

The USA is not a Democracy...which is mob rule....we are a Representative republic.....which means we elect people to represent us. Socialism is a failure everywhere it is tried. It takes away all incentive to work hard and be a productive member of society. Socialism brings people at the top down, not people at the bottom up.......it spreads misery more evenly. I would rather live in a country where I have the FREEDOM to be the best that I can be,instead of a country where the government holds you back and tells you what you can and can't do......unfortunately we are headed for socialism with the Dem's in power now.

No. And there isn't a way to ensure that the US can remain Constitutionally true and become outright socialistic (or truly democratic).

The problem with socialism is that it doesn't factor in human nature. Humans are driven by competition, and all the pot in the world cannot change that.

And if you don't believe me, then why is everyone here, competing for points and levels and questions and answers? Even Yahoo knows that humans are competition-driven.

To various degrees, are not we already there? we've had a hybrid or capitalism and social classes because the 60s, and arguably because the 20s. it isn't a question of operating or no longer, it really is a question of which matches extra appropriate.

I don't believe socialism is a good form a system of government. It put's too much power on too few people. It leaves wide open many of the checks and balances of republic or democracy. A state should never control all business.

I wonder why there is never a discussion about blended systems? We all know neither Capitalism nor socialism function well especially when capitalism is unregulated, I personally think a blended system to insure a basic state of dignity and health while allowing for individual achievement should be the ideal

No. Socialism is not a good thing for anyone. If we decide now to become a socialistic state, we will be giving up some of our freedoms. The more we give up, the easier it will be for politicians to take.

This also goes for dictatorships that take liberties with our freedoms under the guise of "protection."

Yes as they are two different systems. The only thing with socialism is that you would have to keep everyone informed of the social system and that wouldn't be hard because you would have a T.V. channel and a web site.
