I have a Gateway laptop and the speakers on it really suck. I want to know if I will get as good of a sound as any other laptop if i buy some speakers for it.
Does it matter that my current speakers are really weak on it?
Which do you recommend?

The audio chipset that came with your laptop would dictate what sound is coming out of it. If I were to guess, if you bought a cheap advertised one that has a celeron proc., you may actually be looking at an actual bad sound chipset.

That said, the speakers on a laptop are 2-D and really can't come out with much of anything. Have you hooked the audio out to an amplifier/stereo's aux input? That would show you what your laptop's card is really capable of.

I suggest you give that a shot.

Also, the sound you get out of a good set of headphones could also give you a clue as to whether it is a bad sound card or just the max output of the speakers. Mind you, with bad headphones, you may not see any fantastic improvement, so you may as well not even try it if you do not have any good ones.

once you connect the speakers it doesnt matter about the speakers on the laptop. You can basically by any power speakers that will plug into your laptop and it will sound better. Sometimes what you pay for is what you get. I bought the cheapest pair of speakers i could find once, because i knew they would sound better than my laptop speakers. then the glue that held the circuit board came loose. So now when i go to insert the plug into the jack, the whole circuit board move back and i dont get a good connection without having to move the circuit board forward. If you are goin to be doin any studio or sound recording i would say see about getting yourself setup with a set of monitors, this way youll get a clean crisp sound like no other.

you can buy speakers for the computer and buy a amplifier which amplifies the sound so if your laptop dont have enough power you plug the amplifier into the wall and the speakers plug into the amplifier and the amplifier plugs into the laptop so when your laptop sends the sound through the amplifier it amplifies the sound so its louder and better quaulity.

nicely, the audio device are going to be particularly cumbersome anyhow, which you would be able to as nicely flow a budget course and get any form of stereo amp. to connect it, you basically choose a Headphone (3.5mm) to RCA output cable. could basically run you 5 dollars or so.
