You washer should wash, stop, sit for a couple minutes, then spin while rinsing the clothes, then fill up again and go thru the rinse cycle. That's when the fabric softner goes in...on the second complete fill-up. Buy one of those Downy balls and you won't have to ever worry about missing it:) You just fill up the ball, and throw it in when you 1st start your washer, and somehow it magically knows WHEN to open up and add the Downy to the clothes!! I LOVE IT! And they are only a couple of bucks:)
Good Luck!!

Put the softener in when the rinse water is running or right before the machine starts to agitate in the rinse cycle. Or, even better, buy a Downy ball - cheap & worth the money. I use the liquid softener on sheets & towels & a fabric softener sheet on everything else.

I put the softener in as the water starts to fill up on the rinse cycle, that way your clothes will smell great.

You're supposed to put the fabric softener in when it starts rinsing.

I would put it in when it's soaking because sometimes softeners will stain your clothes if you pour it directly on them. In the water it will evenly coat the clothes and make them soft and smell good.

I'm a widower, and I get confused by "add this now, and this later", so I cheat and use Bounce in the dryer!
