It can do alot of damage. Your baby is growing very quickly, and many things are developing that can be very seriously affected by even a small amount of alcohol. Here is some info from the March of Dimes:
"Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause physical and mental birth defects. Each year, more than 40,000 babies are born with some degree of alcohol related damage. Although many women are aware that heavy drinking during pregnancy can cause birth defects, many do not realize that moderate—or even light—drinking also may harm the fetus.

In fact, no level of alcohol use during pregnancy has been proven safe. Therefore, the March of Dimes recommends that pregnant women do not drink any alcohol—including beer, wine, wine coolers and hard liquor— throughout their pregnancy and while nursing. In addition, because women often do not know they are pregnant for a few months, women who may be pregnant or those who are attempting to become pregnant should abstain from alcoholic beverages."

When a pregnant woman drinks, alcohol passes swiftly through the placenta to her baby. In the unborn baby’s immature body, alcohol is broken down much more slowly than in an adult’s body. As a result, the alcohol level of the baby’s blood can be even higher and can remain elevated longer than the level in the mother’s blood. This sometimes causes the baby to suffer lifelong damage."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), each year between 1,300 and 8,000 babies in the United States are born with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), a combination of physical and mental birth defects.

FAS is one of the most common known causes of mental retardation, and the only cause that is entirely preventable. Babies with classic FAS are abnormally small at birth and usually do not catch up on growth as they get older. They may have small eyes, a short or upturned nose and small, flat cheeks. Their organs, especially the heart, may not form properly. Many babies with FAS also have a brain that is small and abnormally formed, and most have some degree of mental disability. Many have poor coordination and a short attention span and exhibit behavioral problems.

In general, alcohol-related birth defects (such as heart defects) are more likely to result from drinking during the first trimester, while growth problems are more likely to result from drinking in the third trimester. However, drinking at any stage of pregnancy can affect the brain."

So I hope you can come up with enough self-control and love for your baby to NOT have that one beer. It isn't really too much to ask.

It is worse to drink when you are earlier in your pregnancy because many of your baby's organs are developing. However there are many doctors that will tell you a glass of red wine every so often is fine, and the percentage in that is about the same as a beer. So I don't see the difference. I am 6 months pregnant and have had a glass of red wine 3 times. A lot of people are very judgmental. I think that it is something that you should decided for yourself, I would say though that you shouldn't consume more than just a beer and you shouldn't make a regular habit of it. Whatever you decided I wish you best of luck with your baby and hope that he/she comes out healthy :)

One drink will not kill anyone. It is a little early, you should wait a little bit longer, but I was on vacation, beeing 15 weeks pregnant at the time and had 2 beeers on 2 different days. But, hey, I am Europian, and there they say that here and there a glass of beer is good to produce more milk. I would not worry so much about having 1 beer. But one only, here and there.

No, do not. I read in a medical book that if you start drinking achocol when you are pregant, your baby could devlop a condtion called Fetal Alcohol Spectrum. It means if u start drinking beer or liquir now. When your baby is born, it might have a slight chance of looking abnormal or having abnormal features and i dont want to be mean, but it can cause your child to be slow. As in, dang, i dont know how to say this without being mean...um, being slow than other children, as in not catching up as in what other kids are doing"

Watch Law and Order and you can learn serious things on there lol.

She or he might turn out to look abnormal from other kids, so whatever you do, just wait 9 more weeks until you can drink but until then, no. And if you know this condtion and you still start drinking achol, you can get arrested for attmepted murder because you're practially killing your baby with beer. Dont be acholic, you can get arrested if u know drinking can hurt your baby.

You can drink only 3 drinks a day.....Maximum.....that is the limit.....so that would only be 21 drinks per week. Your baby will be just fine as long as you don't exceed 21 times. Otherwise they will have fetal problems and may look a bit odd when born. However, don't worry, as a taxpayer, I love to contribute to the health of your child. I am lonely and I need a kid that is slow on the draw and can't run away from me.

Well I suggest not drinking at all. But I didnt know I was pregnant till I was around 10 weeks with my first and got totally smashed a couple of times and talked to my Dr about it and he said one or two drinks wont hurt but now that you know, you shouldnt drink. I also had a sip of wine at my wedding and I was 5 months. Nothing happened to either of my childern they were both VERY healthy when they were born. So dont worry too much about it now.

It has not been determined how much alcohol is bad but if you want a beer have a beer. But you dont NEED it, you WANT it. Trust me I wanted a beer for the whole nine months. I just have great self control.

The Uk government says 4 units a week (that's a glass of wine every other day). The British Medical Association says none.

I doubt very much that one drink will "kill your baby". However, your baby is 100% reliant on you for everything. Is it so much to ask that you don't drink for a few months?
