This is one of the questions that has been asked several times, but never answered for me. Is it illegal for students to be assigned homework that is due the day they return from vacation break? If this is true, does it matter if the school is public or private?

thanks.

No its not. There is nothing on the books that I am aware of. Granted there may be a school district or two out there for whom the policy holds true, but I doubt it.

School is designed to prepare you and socialize you for the real world. Your boss is going to expect that you come back from vacation prepared to work and have completed all work necessary.

You have a few hours at most. Break it up to a half hour per day and it'll be done before you know it.

Nope--not illegal here--checked our Board website. I always had assignments and projects on holidays, so did my son. When I taught full time I would have assignments due after vacation BUT would assign them well ahead of a holiday so that students could easily hand them in before the holidays. It is called scheduling your time.

Sorry. Nothing illegal here. My grandson had two reports he had to work on over Christmas break because they were due the first day after the break. He is a junior in high school.

No. They can assign things and make them due whenever they want. I think the only thing they can do is make things due after summer vacation.

I've never heard of such a rule myself. I think that should be left up to the teacher. Homework never killed anyone, just hurt their feelings.
