I read it quite a few times and enjoyed it each time. Unfortunately somebody "borrowed" mine and it was not returned. Can I have your thoughts on the book?

"Catcher In the Rye" has long been considered one of the classic coming-of-age novels and was considered quite scandalous at the time of its original printing, although it's absolutely G-rated by today's standards. Although the message can still ring true today--people will let you down and it's difficult to know who to trust--many younger readers aren't as familiar with the book because they find it boring (after all, it is written in the slang of the late '40's and early '50's, which is obviously notably different than the slang of today), long, and depressing. However, I enjoyed reading it and so did a lot of my friends. Check out the two links below for more thoughts on the book.

The Catcher in the Rye is a complete classic and was studied throughout my school. I think that it has many of the attributes that anyone can relate to. Its a very "dark" book, but at the same time, its straight forward about the difficulties in our lives.

This book may not be a cup of tea for everyone simply because its depressing. It talks about how Holden is this puzzled teenager, however, we all have a little troubles in our lives at one point or another.

My opinion on the book is that it can be easily related to by some people but also easily boring to others.

It's a classic coming-of-age novel.
It's main theme: that people are phoney, still rings true to this day.
