The other day I was going through my old stuff, and sitting between an old book's pages I found 8 american dollars. I dont know how those bills winded up there, but I must have had them for about a decade now. Anyway, in the 1 dollar bills there is an inscription that says 1988 series. Does that mean those bills were printed back in 1988? If so, are they still valid? And finally what am I supposed to do with that pocket money? I dont Live in the U.S, and here in Europe I think 8 dollars amount only to 5 Euro or so, which is about the price of a cup of coffee.

They are still valid. Just take them into the local currency exchange and trade them in for Euro's. If you hold onto them, they might regain some of the lustre they've lost during the Bush Administration.

A 1988 series bill was indeed printed in 1988. Which makes it worth roughly.. $1.00 US.. US paper currency is valid as long as it has BOTH serial number's on it.. or you have at least one full serial number and 1/3 of the second. this note is legal tender for all debt's public and private.

I understand what your saying about not living in the state's.. and having really nothing you can do with these bills.. but hey.. take them.. spend them.. have a cup of coffee.. and enjoy!

Gus: The 1988 series were printed in 1988 or later. Their U.S. value is $1, which presently means about 6.24 euros.

The bills are still valid, send them to someone you know in the US or just keep them. I have a jar full of money my dad brings back from all over the world. My kids like to go through it, they think its neat. I even have some money from Iraq from before the war.

Just exchange them to Euros if your not going to be travelling to America anytime soon. You can always just use the 5 euros to put towards something else hah.
