I believe that they changed the name because "Ninja" sounded too rough!!
What!!
They may have changed the title, but they still beat up the bad guys!
I never did get how the name change was supposed to make them more friendly
And yes I did like them, they were a bit of fun - but not as good as "Monkey"!!!!

I happened to be in the US when they first came out and I met Mr. Eastman and Mr. Laird. So, I prefer ‘ninja’, because that is how they first appeared. I can understand E&L modifying it for marketing reasons in the UK, tho’…

Ninja sounds more menacing and cooler whereas hero sounds a bit naff.
