(NOTE I'm Bi, not exclusivly gay, and i'm also male.. which does make a BIG difference)
Harrassed? All the time one way or another.. Beaten? Never.. I havent lost a fight yet in life (note I said havent lost.. but I've sure felt it a day or two later lemme tell ya.. I got a few bruised ribs from about 3 days back in fact.. the other guy? umm well I think hes gonna need some new teeth shortly ...and NO i didnt start it but I finished it)
I'd say its likely pretty common generally speaking.. but i would also say you also likely have it easier than a gay male.. Lesbian and female bi's are way more acceptable in the good old USA
and on a funny note.. i dont know what most guys are worried about.. 95% of em are so FUGLY I cant even understand why straight girls even want anything to do with em...

I'm bi. When I was in college I was raped by a male. Married a guy. Was sexually harassed at work by a guy. Harassed on the street by guys. Divorced. Was with a woman for 15 years and never had an issue with anyone.
Being young, female and feminine looking was dangerous for me. Being older and a lesbian, I didn't have any issues, and I was out the whole time. I'm now with a man, and it's a lot better since I'm older, but I definitely get a lot more male (unwanted) attention being with a man, than I did when I was with a woman...but that's just my experience...I know gay guys get harassed and injured and killed, as do women who are "butchy" looking...

Most gays and lesbians experience some kind of harrassment, discrimination or bashing at one time or another. I had a few and still do, but I never got beaten because I am a strong lesbian who is not afraid and doesn't typically get problems. You will also find there are more of us around than you thought! Glad to hear you came out!

Unfortunately, yes. I think it is something almost all LGBT people will experience at one time or another. It will vary, some may get it worse than others, but its bound to happen.
I, myself, have been verbally harassed and assulted. People who see me coming out of gay clubs or with another girl, or even with a group of gay men will attack with slurs and threats.
When I was in high school a few of the bigger guys in my grade level decided that they were going to attack me and pin me against a wall and tell me they were going to 'fix' me.
I've never been beaten or raped and I consider myself very lucky.
What makes it easier is having a strong group of people around me who understand and support me. It always helps to have someone else who knows, or has been there. The great thing is, they don't have to be queer to understand, they can just being loving and caring friends.
There are all kinds of organizations and groups to talk to about these issues. I would suggest getting in contact with your local chapter of GLAAD or GLSEN, or even PFLAG. They all have really great resources and its a great way to meet people who share the same experiences.
If you ever have any questions you need answered you can always ask me, I'm sure you can contact me by email.

I have been picked on for people thinking I'm gay. I am but that's beside the point. Had not told anybody at that time so they were being extremely cruel from just the look of me. Family, classmates, schoolmates all of them.
