if you keep it in the fridge then it will use up a LOT of its fat reserves just to keep warm then it might not have enough left and could die, really it needs those fat reserves to keep its body functioning.

I would still say, take it out of the fridge and put it in a cardboard box with lots of bedding, put it in the garage or something. there is no need for the fridge, its just taking a risk, you know for sure that no harm will come to it in a cardboard box so just do that instead, safer and he will be still alive at the end of hibernation.

Good luck.

I too, thought this was a joke. Thanks for the link Ammo. That was very interesting. I learned something today also.

I used to keep mine in a box in a dark closet. I think that would be safer than the refrigerator. The article does say the fridge can go haywire and the tortoise could freeze to death.

I've learnt something too today, that's really bizarre. The link on the previous answer is great, I'm sure it'll say there or you could email them.

I really hope you are kidding, it's not very funny though. A tortoise goes into warmth for hibernation, even I know that, and I've never had one. Please tell me your'e kidding.

Why do you want it to hibernate?

Why not just keep it warm and active all winter so you can enjoy your pet.
