would adding a decicated video card to my computer increase the framerate. my computer (circa 2002) has a intel 82810 intergrated video chipset, a 1200mhz celeron processor and 512mb ram the video is good as far as the resolution and number of colors.but my computer doesnt get a very good frame rate i have to use low resolution to get some things to work, and it also lags while scrolling down web pages that are graphicly intense. it isnt terrible slow otherwise.is framerate more dependent on the video card or the speed of ur processor.?? my processor isnt upgradeble so i am hopeing that a new video card will help. would it be possible to double my framerate by installing a new video card.? also how do i tell if my computer has a slot avaible for a video card and what type of slot it is without opening the computer case.?

I can't say a graphics card wouldn't help but really with the newer releases you'll still be significantly behind.

You prob have at least a 4x agp port on there if you want to find a mid-range card to run with. But really, you've got a celeron processor and only 512MB ram. Since 2002 we've moved on to dual core processors and pci-xpress bus...or even dual card sli setups.

Realisticly, you can run just about all your software just fine on an older system like that. Mainly just games or heavy encoding work will give you headaches. As far as hardware upgrads you'll always be chasing your tail a bit to keep up with the latest and greatest. Some of the newer cards are upwards of $300-400 bucks alone and another $200 for the better sli motherboards. There's always the option of putting a few hundred bucks towards an xbox360 or similar and you'll have full game support for easily the next 5 years with no upgrade headaches.

add another 512mb of ram to your computer, if you have a 4slot dimm for ram upgrades...do 3 more 512 ram sticks makesure you know whether its DDR or DDR2 motherboard compliant, after upgrading ram, which helps with faster gameplay but not necessarily faster FPS get yourself a $200 graphic but your computer is only as fast as your slowest computer part, so your processor doesnt sound very good, Try tigerdirect.com for all AGP graphic cards and find something around $100 bucks since you dont want to have something faster than your CPU can handle, would be a waste of extra money for the next time you buy a computer...good luck

well to answer the big question, yes it would increase frame rate, the processor is fine. you could also have files that slow down your pc. but you may need to open up the case to see what slot you have. though its probably an AGP slot

Im not sure if it would "double" it, it may help.

But framerate isnt just about video.

Its about video , your processor, your harddrive.

If you have a great video card, but sucky HD and CPU then it doesn't matter how good your video card is.

Good luck!

the linked fee of the device will advance somewhat at greater resolutions like 1200x900 (custom), 1280x1024, 1600x1200 etc......with a snap shots card that has 256mb on board ram and your device would not share DDR ram. in the journey that your device has integrated video with shared ram between the video card and device ram then giving your video greater ram will take it removed from the device making it somewhat to rather slower.
