It truly relies upon on the milage, the a million.8 petrol engine is a Rover ok sequence unit, and is susceptible to Headgasket mess ups. my buddy has a 2002 version of the a million.8 Freelander and his Headgasket all started leaking at 50000 miles inspite of being offered from Land Rover valid Used vehicle and restoration by them. i'd likely get the TD4 if I were you or extra appropriate nevertheless %. up a 1999 (new styling) Discovery 4.0 with LPG

No. Poor reliability, big insurance and high CO2 output (expensive road tax).

Better to get a Toyota RAV4 or Nissan X-Trail.

If you're serious about off roading, get a Land Rover Defender.

Depends on where you are located. If you're in the UK, it might not be a bad deal. If you're in the US, I'd think hard about it. The sources of repair parts are pretty limited, and there's not nearly as many shops that are familiar with them. You could end up paying the mechanic's time while he's learning the quirks of that make, and that could get expensive.

freelanders are pretty toys... it may have 4 wheel drive, but so does the ford transit county, and i wouldnt want to go cross fields in one of them either.

they may look good, especially with the top down.. but thats it. buy a disco, or a real rangey...

as Discovery or Defender are far more capable off road

i have two mates that work at land rover, they call them solihull sheds! they recommend a 2.5td jeep cherokee instead, better built, more roomy and far more reliable. can't say fairer than that.
