That's exactly how i am, i am 16 though. It's normal to be extremely heavy but when flooding (when you soak through the biggest size pad or tampon within two to three hours) occures, it can be dangerous. Go to the doctor and make sure you aren't anemic and you dont' have any cysts or anything like that. You are more likely than not perfectly healthy!

Yeah it's normal, my mom was blessed enough to have a 5 day light flow. I bled for up to 9 days, and was using Super Plus tampons plus a pad..no fun :( Apparently it's common for younger girls to have a heavier flow though. When I consulted a doctor, she said the only real option after ruling out any serious causes(cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, etc.) was to use hormonal BC. It worked for me, my periods are now about 6 days and I can usually get away with using a regular tampon for most of it. It's not fantastic, but a lot better and less painful and messy. You might check into it.

There is no absolute normal, but this appears to be at the high end. I was always warned about trying to get blood loss, from a description of the number of pads, as people change them at different saturation levels.

I would be concerned, especially as we eat less red meat, and therefore less iron, if this level of blood loss might put you at risk of anaemia. I suggest it might be worth getting your practice nurse to check your blood count and iron stores.

If they are low it would mean a simple iron supplement, but it would indicate that ways of reducing your period should be looked at.

There are three options for this. Mefenamic acid (Ponstan), an anti-inflammatory reduces it a little, but the two best options are tranxenamic acid or hormones, especially the pill.

It's normal, but it sucks though. You are only 14, but you might be able to convince your mom to let you go on birth control (just don't think it means you can have all the sex you want - it doesn't prevent STDs), but this will help control your flow and regulate your periods (also helps with cramps and bleeding). You could also try a low-dose pill like the new "Yaz" which makes your period last only a few days.
