I loveeeee to write and I loveeee to be on television. I'm currently in the TV Broadcast journalism program, but i'm afraid that this major won't really provide me with the results that i'm expecting. For instance, good pay, a stable job.....etc. Is this major too common, and is it really competitive...also what is the highest degree you can achieve? Thanks

In addition to Ms. Jackson, doing freelance work can help for the practical side of the business. Well, in fact, any kind of journalism work while you're in school helps to keep your skills up to par, no matter the medium.

As for your major, your route of education depends on what kind of journalist you want to be. As I'm planning to be a foreign correspondent, I'm currently a first year Arts student, majoring political science, with an international studies minor (study of globalization politically, socially, and economically). While I'm doing this, I've been writing lots for the news section of my campus newspaper. After my arts degree, I'm planning to get a Master's degree in journalism, getting entrance with my previous experience. Like you, I hope to be on television.

From what I have been reading on forums for Canadian University Press' student editors & volunteers (I'm Canadian), getting a Master's degree, in combination with previous experience, helps you much more than a diploma or bachelor's degree. Entrance into the profession is extremely competitive, and that master's thesis can really help you. As for your question on the highest degree, that would be a PhD in journalism, but you don't need that to get into the business. A note: both the master's and PhD in journalism cover both print and broadcasting.

If you tell us what kind of broadcast journalist you'd like to be in the 'additional details', I'll be happy to recommend a route for you to take. I'll just edit this answer.
