hi, im really confused about what race i am considered. both of my parents are christian egyptians who were born in egypt and their ancestors were born there too. i have olive colored skin. i have thick lips and black african hair. however, i have blue eyes and a narrow nose like a white person would have. i was told to just check off white but i do not believe i am white because you can easily see the differences between me and a typical white person. i also do not believe im white because most white peoples' skin is too fair to resist the strong sun and heat of egypt itherefore my ancestors couldn't have been white..

if someone who didn't know me at all were to identify me, they wouldn't say "that black girl over there", nor would they say "that white girl over there"

Well, I would say your Egyptian, since both of your parents are Egyptian. But if it comes to choosing a race on some form, it doesn't really matter, because that info is not, and can not be relevant to anything other than market surveys.

I would check the box marked "other" or if there is a write-in spot, write Egyptian, since both your parents are Egyptian. You sound like a beautiful girl to me, so don't stress. Who you are is really defined by what is on the INSIDE, not the outside.

You don't say where you were born yourself. or which nationality passport you hold. That might determine what race you'd "check off" Since both your parents and ancestors are from Africa, I'd expect that you'd tick the box marked African since your country of origin, rather than the shade of your skin, is the usual information being asked for in a survey of ethnicity.

You're African and American, it's African-American. Or just put Egyptian if it makes you feel better about yourself to disassociate yourself from being black. Trust me, black people would think you're black...

It seems to me that you know you are not white, but don't really want to be associated with blacks, though you know you are. I think you already know in your heart what is right but you're looking for someone to condone you doing otherwise.

Northern Africans are Caucasian. Some Irish and Jews also have kinky hair. Just look at the founder of Kinkos.

BTW, More Whiner Carey IS black, just not 100%.

Race is not a real thing. It's just some VERY broad categories that we use to group people based on how they look. Technically there should be thousands of races but somehow we only have a handful. If something is asking you for your race just don't fill it in. It's really nobody's business because race isn't real.

Hi Kris, Your right. If they don't have a box that fits your race. make another box and right in Egyptian this is who you really are,and you should be proud of it. A Friend.

"Other- Egyptian ancestry"
Then do some research. it is much easier to take advantage of the American if you are non white, and if your bloodline is from certain countries. If you check white, you automatically disqualify yourself from many social program advantages. So don't immediately mark "African American", either.

You're obviously mixed because you have features unique to blacks and features unique to whites. People want you to believe that you're white because they want you to believe that the Egyptians were white, but they were black.
