I think that teachers are already underpaid and overworked, not to mention the lack of support that teachers get from both their administrators and the parents.

Not a good Idea, Number one kids already are to darn tired and have very little time to be kids. And if you are talking about the new theory they have about adding two more hours every day they also want to add a few hours every other Saturday and some time in the Summer.
I don't think it is a good Idea. My kids ride the bus home from school they don't get off the bus until 5:00 now as it is. So if they were to add 2 more hours they would be getting home after 6:00 at night They want to stat an hour earlier and go a hour longer from my understanding.
That is taking way to much time away from the family. On average a parent only spends about 4 hours a day with their child and most of that time is spent doing home work cooking meals and bathing children. there is really no family time.
now they want to take more not good at all.

I am at school for 8 and a half hours everyday, the norm is 7, so i feel that im in the situation you're proposing and can respond. its really horrible. i am continously tired, i have no time for exctracurriculars(because i have to get home and immediately start HW so im not up til 2 everynight) and everyone i kno is burning out. all we do is work work work, the only socializing we do is lunch time, but even then its limited cuz our lunch period is so short we're forced to just swallow food and run. i don't no think it is a good idea, kids need time to be kids! we need to play outside, experience life, and just chill sometimes! more and more kids have to see psychiatrists, put on ADD or ADHD meds, anxiety meds, or seek other forms of medical treatment because we just can't handle all the stress! the amount of performance that society expects from us is simply ridiculous! i mean, no wonder we're blowing up schools, slitting our wrists, becoming anorexic, and taking drugs and drinking! its just TOO MUCH! 30 years ago, this type of enviroment would NOT have been tolerated. we're being prematurely thrust into the harsh working world and its completely unfair and unhealthy.

The schools don't need any more hours, they need to use the time they have effectively. To use the time effectively, the teachers need to maintain order in the classroom. The teachers can maintain order by sending unruly kids to the principals office where they should be dealt with then and there. The parents should stand behind the schools, principals and teachers, and if a kid is punished at school for bad behavior, he should get another dose of it at home for getting in trouble at school. When I went to school, corporal punishment was doled out for misdeeds, teachers ruled the classroom, and you were there to LEARN. Now the kids graduate from school and can't even spell properly!!!

I think it would be a good idea. But i would want the kids to have a longer summer vacation and less homework because of the extra 2 hours. It would keep them out of trouble and less time 4 the negative things kids are doing today .But it would also cut back on their extracurricular activities. Which would save parents money in the long run.

Not much affect at all...If the can't do what needs to be done with the time they have now there isn't much sense in adding more.
For the better students it might help, but for the poorer students it would only make things worse, with most finding it as simply two more hours to socialize...In short it would be a wash...

Although it would've sucked if I had to go through it, adding 2 hours a day may be a good idea. We're far behind in our education system. About time to catch up a bit.

Time in the classroom isn't the issue. The problem is low expectations. Teachers blame parents and parents blame teachers. Nobody puts blame where it belongs. Kids spend too much time being entertained, and have forgotten HOW to learn. Until we put a lid on excessive distractions, be they MTV, Ipods, or excessive computer entertainment, things will not, and can not get better.

If US schools would get better results out of every hour of school and skills were acquired by all students, we wouldn't need to extend school hours. However, if there are students who are lagging for various reasons, language barrier, poor grades, etc., then those students should be given more time in school to improve and achieve.
