The only choice you have is to remove the gas fire to get the bird out. This happens frequently because in the cold weather, birds will perch on chimneys which are warm from the gas fire fumes. But, the fumes make them a bit dopey and they then fall into the chimney.

We have removed many birds from behind gas fires, but to remove the fire you need to get a CORGI (UK) registered person to do this. Alas by the time one comes out the bird will probably be dead, so you could just forget about it as we have removed many a dead bird and the owners didn't even know they were there, no smell. SORRY

When you do get it out move immediately to the chimmney top and place a bird guard on the top to stop birds falling down.Put the guard on all chimmneys even unused ones.I had to do this as a bird fell down into the open fire then flew about the room destroying the walls with soot.

the only thing you can do is remove gas fire ..but they do not live long in this situation ..and providing the bird is in the bottom of the grate it will not effect the fire
