Goodfellas...
"Henry Hill: You're a pistol, you're really funny. You're really funny.
Tommy DeVito: What do you mean I'm funny?
Henry Hill: It's funny, you know. It's a good story, it's funny, you're a funny guy.
[laughs]
Tommy DeVito: what do you mean, you mean the way I talk? What?
Henry Hill: It's just, you know. You're just funny, it's... funny, the way you tell the story and everything.
Tommy DeVito: [it becomes quiet] Funny how? What's funny about it?
Anthony Stabile: Tommy no, You got it all wrong.
Tommy DeVito: Oh, oh, Anthony. He's a big boy, he knows what he said. What did ya say? Funny how?
Henry Hill: Jus...

Henry Hill: Just... ya know... you're funny.
Tommy DeVito: You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little ****** up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to ******' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?

Tommy DeVito: No, no, I don't know, you said it. How do I know? You said I'm funny. How the **** am I funny, what the **** is so funny about me? Tell me, tell me what's funny!
Henry Hill: [long pause] Get the **** out of here, Tommy!

The only truly different answer here is After Hours. It is a marvellously clever piece of work.
Still, it is not Scorsese's best. I would have to go with the marvellous atmospherics of Taxi Driver or the mobster realism of Goodfellas (far better than the Coppola films).
None of Scorsese is to everyone's taste, but my favorite is Raging Bull, and not just because of De Niro's all-out performance, but more because its period atmosphere was perfect and because I have never seen another picture where the principal character displayed his flaws so openly.

I'm not into gangster movies, or period pieces, but I loved "After Hours". It was ORIGINAL, something most films (including The Departed) are not. Have you ever had a REALLY bad night, where every decision you made was wrong? Is so, you will love this movie.

Taxi Driver
"All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people."
"I first saw her at Palantine Campaign headquarters at 63rd and Broadway. She was wearing a white dress. She appeared like an angel. Out of this filthy mess, she is alone. They... cannot... touch... her."
"Loneliness has followed me my whole life. Everywhere. In bars, in cars, sidewalks, stores, everywhere. There's no escape. I'm God's lonely man."
SO GOOD!!!

Without question: CASINO! This is my all time favorite, although there are others in line with just as much clout including: "The Color of Money", "Cape Fear", and "Good Fellas" It's about time they recognized this man for his works of art!!! Long overdue.
