Any transition is difficult for most of us anyways. I moved from Canada to New York City and then to Los Angeles, then to San Diego.

What you have to do is get your stuff unpacked as soon as you can, that way you won't feel like you're in limbo too much. Figure out the core things that you enjoyed in London. I've been to London and it's a very cosmopolitan place similar to New York, but for me, pubs are very much the social gathering in London. If it was the same thing for you in London, try finding some local pubs in Houston and start frequenting them.

Hang out with your firends and find some cool things to do outside. Houston can be brutal in the summer as it is very hot, so if you're moving there now, try to do as much as you can do outside so you can see what is out there.

Allocate some time to yourself for comfort activities. For me it was to eat some mashed patatos or something to remind me of home.

Houston is a great, wonderful, diverse place to live. Take care of yourself so you can enjoy going places. The summer weather can get to you. It's hot and muggy. If you are planning to spend an 45 minutes or more outside, buy bottled water and keep it chilled. Drink water before you dry out and keep drinking it. Know the symptems of heat exhaustion and what to do if oyu feel them coming on. Don't drink alcohol in the sun. If you leave home, chill bottled water in an ice chest. Bring towels to wet down and keep around your neck. Use regular water to wet your head if you need to cool off fast. Eat light. Even better, buy some ice packs and keep them handy. Wear sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat all year long. You may encounter some mosquitos, so keep the bug spray handy. Make sure your car and home have good cold air conditioning. Stay in the shade as much as possible. Reapply sunscreen if you sweat a lot or if you are enjoying watersports.

Some people who move here develop breathing problems such as asthma, or allergies. See a doctor for meds to ease your discomfort, or consult an herbalist.

Welcome to Texas. You'll have a ball!

Oh no, now why would you want to go and do a thing like that? As long as you stay in Houston the general population will not be able to reach you.

Well,it's crucial to bear in mind that most Houstonians are idiots, friendly, polite, but still idiots.OK,not most,but....
The heat here in the summer can be brutal, and do not step out into traffic under any circumstances,Texas drivers tend to think automobiles have the right of way over pedestrians.Your friends should take you out to one of our many excellent Mexican restaurants, most of them are just brilliant.
Have fun, welcome to the "Big H"
Texas,it's like a whole 'nuther country.
