I want to become a vet one day.(a full vet not a tech) I know pretty much everything about animals, love them to death, and have thousands of books. I am trying hard in school, but to get into vet school it says you have to have top notch grades. I make honors (A's and B's) and not High honors. Is that okay? And what are some classes I should be taking and doing good in? Please Help me!

A lot of Science classes - also you might call your vet or several vets & ask for 5 minutes of their time, prepare questions beforehand about the classes you would need, what s/he does everyday, all the questions you need to know, be sure to ask names of other people you might talk to you and follow up with a thank you note.

Or if you would prefer write a letter to a the head of Veternary Medicine & ask them the questions you need to know to prepare for your Schooling and career.

Volunteer at a Vet's office or an animal shelter or something similiar - colleges look at your extra curricular activities as well, and join an animal society or organization - committed animal lovers are always appreciated and you'll learn a great deal & have some fun!

Well I don't know about the grade thing cause I'm not American, but here in Greece you also need high grades to get to vet school,if the best you can get is a 20 you need a 17.5 to get to the university to become a vet.The classes are very difficult and you need to be devoted to get yourself through the school cause it will take a lot of your time in those years you are studying.Classes that will help you are biology, chemistry, math and I don't know if you have other classes there, like zoology or something like that.Anything that has to do with nature and biology is a good choice.Good luck,I hope you can make your dream come true,it is hard work but it is definitely worth it!

Your grades will need to be high, talk to your guidance councelor for more help. Also, if you can't get into the college you want (a friend of mine is trying to become a vet - her grades were all a's and b's but not high enough for Ohio State's vet program) so she is starting out at OSU as a Biology Major for her first 4 years - then transfering to the vet program once she proves herself. Focus on science and math courses. Try to get as many as you can before graduation, not only to help you get placed in college, but to make sure this is what you want. Work hard and you will succeed! Good luck to you :)

It is very expensive to b ecome a vet here, also like you say they require real high grades. Consider studying abroad for your qualification, like Puerto Rico or Mexico or in the UK. Or try going through the military service.

You'll have to check with your guidance counselor at school or whatever colleges have the veterinary programs to find out what your grade point average has to be or how you need to qualify to be accepted.

I know you'll definitely have to excel in the sciences...biology, chemistry,etc...

You need to talk to your school counselor not people on yahoo!!!!! YOu need to make sure you are taking the right classes and looking into which vet school you are interested in.

I used to want to become a veterinarian and then changed my mind. It's not just helping animals. You spend alot of time putting pets to sleep, and fixing animal abuse problems and there's nothing you can do about it. And then when you add the overcharging customers, it just turned me off. There are more practical and easier ways to get involved and help wildlife.
