Sing a song you already know very well. Something you are comfortable singing. depending on the audition policy you should probably have music with you. either sheet music or a cd of background music.

Unless asked for, it's a bad idea to sing a song from the show. I wouldn't recommend that. And although Disney songs would seem the obvious choice, most Disney songs are in a completely different style of music then High School Musical. I would recommend something pop-influenced. "Amayzing Mayzie" from Seussical would be a great song, specifically for Sharpay, but make sure you don't sing anything that you can't hit the notes in. Make sure you're comfortable with your song, because if you aren't it will show.

Just stick to something lively, and from a musical is a good thing to remember. It wouldn't be bad for you to do something from HSM. Be sure to pick something without a lot of highs, but be sure to show off your whole range, lows and all. If you know a few songs from HSM, I would recommend We're All in This Together. Quite a fun song, and it has a good range.

I also liked the above comment for Amayzing Mayzie. That is such a fun song to sing, and it's quite energetic, good Latin beat.

GENERAL NOTE

When you try out for shows, try to pick something that fits that show's mood. HSM is usually pretty upbeat, so you wouldn't do a sad song, like Anatevka (sp?) from Fiddler on the Roof. Same thing goes the other way. Don't try out for a dramatic and sad show with I Feel Pretty, either.

If you've ever watched A Walk to Remember, the song in that movie was really good. However, generally it's a good idea to sing a song that's actually from the play that you're supposed to be performing in, so I'd look for any solo songs from the movie.

Depends on your vocal range. I'd pick a Disney song - Maybe Colors of the Wind from Pocohantas?
