We are low on cash this week and can't afford to buy much but we want to be prepared in case we are home bound. Any ideas?

Personally, first I would prepare bottles ahead of time if possible. I would expect the power to go out, so maybe pack a small cooler for the bottles and whatever other baby necessities you may need to keep cool. If you don't have ice, I'd use snow honestly.

And gather extra blankets, and proper clothing not only for your infant but you as well, because heating could be an issue. Gather candles, matches, flash lights and have them ready. And if you have a cell phone I would charge it just in case of an emergency.

Hopefully that helps!

I would contact a friend that will let you stay in their home in case you loose power. You need to keep warm, especially the kid. If you have a gas stove then even better. I would suggest you get all your prescriptions fill, and have enough food and water for a few days. I don't know where you live so I'm assuming a rural area. Also, put an anti freeze fuel additive in your car gas tank and then fill the tank up.

Make sure you have enough diapers and wipes.Think of what would you do if you where trapped in your house without power for a few days.

A lesser thing might be to get some entertainment for you since you may be there for a few days.

First off, make that food budget stretch. You might see if there is an Aldi store in your area; it only takes cash, but generally is much lower in price. Be sure to bring your own bags!
Also, if you're breast feeding, that will help tremendously. If there is a way to go elsewhere away from the storm, that's a great idea.

If you can't get a generator immediately, then you will want to make sure to get a lot of blankets, however, with the risk of SIDS, you'll want to be very careful using blankets depending on how old your child is.
You'll want to keep your baby in layered clothing, but make sure not to overheat him/her.

Otherwise, do your best to buy babyfood as needed for age, and do the best you can.

As long as you have food and water, things should be ok. :-)

good luck in braving the storm!

not knowing how old the infant is not knowing if you are breastfeeding or not this is a tough question but lets go for the basics. If you are breastfeeding make sure you have plenty of water and liquids for yourself. if you aren't breastfeeding make sure you have plenty of formula on hand for about 3 days. also diapers and wipes, diaper rash oniment, food for you and the baby, baby cereal if you are feeding the baby that. Also make sure you have flashlights encase power goes out. so lots of blankets to stay warm with also. Just use common sense and think it though and you should do ok.

We had an ice storm here in Missouri recently and thousands of people lost power. We were fortunate that my in-laws didn't lose power so we stayed there with our 20 month old little girl. If that is not an option, get a generator powerful enough to run some portable heaters and maybe even your fridge. While we were gone, I bought a lot of dry ice and kept it in the fridge, freezer and deep freeze. You just don't want to take chances with a little one, and you definitely don't want to use heat from anything that can kill from carbon monoxide.

We had an ice storm when my daugher was 7 months old. Have plenty of disposables on hand. Do you have a source of heat, like a kerosene heater? We did not and it got to 50 degrees in the house. We put her in bed between us and covered up. She stayed warm that way. Finally we left and went to someone else's house.

Good Question but....At least try to save the money or ask someone in your family to lend you some $ in case you get
that big ice storm.Especially with a young boy to take care of.
Also make sure you have the foods you need and clothes
(diapers,cereal,milk etc).

Make sure your baby has milk, and make sure you have lots of warm blankets. Other than that, you should be fine. The ice storm is coming here too and I have 5 kids.

Make sure you have a lot of formula. Are you on any assistance like WIC? That would surely help.
Make sure you have diapers. If you have to, make diapers. I use to have to use cloth diapers, and when I didnt have any, Ive used a towel. I know it sounds gross, but ya do what ya gotta do! Make sure the child has everything it needs.
Make sure you have all the necessary items...batteries, flash light, things like that.
Good luck!
