Unlike the guy with the odds, too many people just take the best 2 teams and say them. But since I am a Sabres fan, I'll take the Sabres, but I still would even if they weren't my home team. They got 8 injuries I believe, but almost all expected to be back before the playoffs. They got a lot of speed, a lot of depth, great offense, good defense, very good goaltending, increasingly better Power Player, and slowly getting better Penalty Kill. They have proven to be the best team in the East by far, along with the Devils who earned, and deserved #2. For the West, I believe I'll stay the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. They got a great starting goalie, Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who's record I believe is 28-8-7,.919 SV%, and 2.26 GAA, which is VERY good numbers. They also got Ilya Bryzgalov, which is a very good and capable back up goalie in case Giguere slumps or gets hurt again. They also got great leaders like Chris Pronger, Teemu Selanne, Andy McDonald, and many more. They got very good defense, as in Chris Pronger, Scott Niedermayer, Shane O'Brien, Francois Beauchemin, and some others. They also got some veterans stepping up like Teemu Selanne, Pronger, Niedermayer. They also got some younger players stepping up like Ryan Getzlaf, Andy McDonald, Chris Kunitz, and Dustin Penner. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they made the Stanley Cup because they got a great all-around team, and so do the Buffalo Sabres. I also think the Sabres would win 4-1 in 5 games.

I still think the West is dominated by Detroit. I know a lot of you think Detroit is overrated just because they compete with Chicago, St. Louis and Columbus....but trust me, they are a good team. I mean have you people not realized that the teams they lost to during the past 3 post seasons since they won the cup; are the teams that have made up to the Finals???Detroit doesn't lose to just any team. East, on the other hand..im not quite so sure. Yes, the Sabres are on the top but I can see Atlanta, New Jersey, or Tampa Bay competing in the Finals. I really like New Jersey's chance of winning the cup than the Sabres. oo....I completely forgot about a team that is arguably the most dangerous team as of right now, the Pittsburg Penguins. I say Pitt vs Detroit or Buff vs Detroit would be a fascinating matchup.

Just a few thoughts of mine:
Montreal will be lucky to make the playoffs. Same with Toronto and Boston. Buffalo will be stung from this past year's run and get booted in the first or second round. I'm not sure about Carolina yet. Anaheim can't conceivably be worse with Pronger and will go very deep in the playoffs. Edmonton won't be nearly as good, and probably won't make the playoffs, or squeak in if they do. Calgary will be a force. Ottawa will be a regular season force, then pull their regular playoff disappearing act. NYR will be a surprising team this year providing Lundqvist doesn't pull a Raycroft. Shanahan was a great addition. Phoenix will be a much improved team this year. Same with Minnesota and St.Louis. Washington's not going anywhere. Same with Pittsburgh - not yet anyways. NYI will always suck. NJ's dynasty is starting to fall apart because Lammy screwed up a few times. They'll be in the thick of things anyways though because of Elias and Brodeur. Philly will be lucky to make the playoffs this year. Their defense is slow like molasses. Tampa Bay hopefully won't make the playoffs. I want them to set the example that a top-heavy team (ie - 3 players with 25% of a team's salary) will always fail. Detroit will only make the playoffs because Chicago, St.Louis and Columbus are easy prey. If they didn't get 50 pts from them last year, they wouldn't have been considered such a flop in the playoffs if they lost in the first round. Vancouver will be lucky to make the playoffs, and if they do, they'll be out quick. They lack depth.
Western Conference power shift: Anaheim, Detroit, San Jose and Nashville will be top teams.
Eastern Conference powers: Buffalo, New York Rangers, Ottawa and Pittsburgh
I would say for the west Anaheim and for the East Buffalo

I'd say the Sabres and the Predators, simply because they have the most depth. Depth is what you need in the playoffs (Sabres last year lasted very long b/c of depth). But you also need key leaders with experience and talent. Briere, Drury, Nummenin and hopefully they pick someone up at the deadline to solidify that. Also the Predators, Forsberg, Kariya(spell check), also they have legwand, Timonen and Vokoun in goal
Both of these teams have powerful offenses
Solid defense
and consistant goaltending
team chemistry
those are the keys to winning the stanley cup.
