His movies have been nominated for many different Oscars - including 4-5 Best Picture nominations. However, none of Marty's movies have done well at the Oscars. No Director or Best Picture prize and very few Oscars overall - mainly actor awards.

It seems that many years he has the bad luck of releasing his movies in a year where there is at least one even better movie. The Aviator went up against Million Dollar Baby (which is one of the best movies I've ever seen), and Gangs of New York went up against Chicago (and I actually think the award should have gone to Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers or The Pianist).

I don't believe so. I'm thinking of the big ones, Taxi Driver, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, Raging Bull, Good Fellas. None of those have won. Poor Martin.
