Okay well I have cheered for the past 3 years, but that has been for a school team. And now i want to try out for an All Star team, but i don't have a handspring or anything. I have done tumbling and i probably would have it by now, but i had to quit [back in october] because of my new cheerleading schedule. Well anyway i'm not sure if i can make the team and im afraid a little. I know i'm good and i'm not trying to be snobby about it but i am good enough to be on an All Star team; im loud, funn, good with builds and have my motions pretty darn good.

SO;;
I was wondering if you all think i should try out or not?

and if you do think i should; could you give me some tips for not being so nervous!

PLEASE and THANKYOU!! :-]

i say go for it!! dont let ur nervousness stop u!! u will over come it and practice at ur house get on the internet and look at how you could be better and when its time to try out u'll be over confident!!! practice one time infront of you family when you get together and at try-outs pretend its just them there and tune everyone elso out...but of course the judges!!!! u can do it have high self esteem!! it sounds like u already got some!!!

When I went out for cheer extreme all-stars I was extremely nervous because the girls (and guys) there were so competitive, and experienced, and there I was with a backhandspring. Three years on that team and i've been a national champion, co-ed flyer, got a lottt of tumbling skills, and it's been an awesome experience. Go in there like you want to work for it, and you are willing to work as hard as possible to get the needed skills. Also, don't slump off to the back of the mat, or go last. Get noticed, and you'll be alot better off. Good luck :) Oh, and voice isn't very important in All-Stars, but looking like your having a lot of fun, and being a strong, assertive, base or backspot is a very big plus. Work on your jumps a lot also. :)

Guess what!?!? Go for it!! I have been cheerleading for the past 6 years!!! this is my first year of AllStar/competitive cheerleading and i just got my backhandspring and i am working on my round-off backhandspring. before tryouts try to fit tumbling into your schedule. If not it's okay. And if you do make the team and go to many competitions remember never be nervous just have fun!!! Good Luck!!

a lot of girls learn their back handsprings during cheer so go ahead! I learned my back handspring w/ out taking gymnastics but i wouldn't reccomend it. what would be really great is if you know someone who used to teach gymnastics that could agree to help you out at home or on a trampoline. trampolines are a great place to start.

for tips on not being so nervous is just think of how impressed you can make people rather than what "could" go wrong. Just forget people are even watching you.
if you have stage fright maybe take up theatre to get over your stage fright and improve your presence.

good luck!

Go try out! I know that some All-Star teams have at least non-competitive teams where you can just work on improving your skills. What's the worst that can happen?

No sense in not trying. What do you have to lose?
