I have had hamsters, first thing you need to know is they only live for about one and a half to a little over two years. Fresh veg's, like carrots and celery are great for a hamster and small dog biscuits are too, both of these will help your hamsters teeth, most of the time when you hamster goes to eat they will put the food in their check and hide it, they are saving it for latter. It is recommended that you remove all left over food each day and replace it with fresh food and fresh water. you need to clean the cage at least once a week with about 2 to3 inches of bedding, I recommend recycle paper from your pet store; hamsters can have a allergic reaction to pine and ceder. Empty toilet and paper towel rolls make great toys for the hamster: not only do they have fun running through them but they also chew on them which serves as two purposes; one it adds to there bedding and two it helps keep their teeth short, If your still in doubt take your hamster to a vet or seek advice for your pet store. you can also get flavored wood blocks and chew toys. I would give mine yogurt treats for hamsters also. I hope I have been of some help!

Hi, Hamsters usually gnaw on anything, have you tried one of the mineral stones from the pet shop? If that dosent work take her to the vets.

Is she eating at all? How old is she? This might be a sign that she's about to die (animals usually stop eating at the end). Otherwise, just go outside and grab some sticks and put them in the tank. She'll chew when she feels like it. My hamsters never liked store-bought chew sticks. (I don't see the point in spending $40 at the vet on a $6 hamster anyway.....)

What I do is I soak a piece of wood in orange juice so it is appealing to chew. Put her on an all chewing diet. Also feed her foods that require her to chew, feed her puff food (this is what i fed my hamster)

its very crunchy, also feed them stuff like maybe a dog biscuit once in a while as a crunchy treat. For veggies feed your hamster carrots, and other very hard vegetables.

Hamsters will ALWAYS gnaw on anything. I had one that chewed holes in my work pants and sweat shirts, and I'm not talking small holes either!!

Get it some chew sticks and cheese cakes to gnaw on.

Go to the vets and watch how they cut the teeth and how short, then you will be able to do this yourself if old enough or ask an adult. Vets will show you if you ask them to show you how to cut them.I have cut many hamsters teeth down to size over the years.

you need to take her to the vet to have them filed down, then get her a wooden toy to gnaw on.
i didnt realise my hamsters teeth had grown so long until she stopped eating and i took her to the vet.... and had to have them seen to, but dont let it get to that stage, do it asap so she wont be uncomfortable..

Only get worried if she seems to be having trouble eating.

If that happens take her to a vet pronto.

In the meantime give her loads of different chewing options from cardboard tubes in the middle of toilet rolls to wood chews from the pet shop.

if you have baby scissors you can do it yourself, you may need someone to help you by holding the hamster, get the baby scissors in and trim just a little bit off, make sure you don't clip his tongue, and you only need to trim off a little it should just take you about 5 minutes, but if your not sure how to clip them your self, take him to the vet they will show you how to do it and clip your hamsters teeth, and it only should cost about 3 dollars, i hope this helps.
