Self pride is a much different animal than being proud of your child, or dog, or whatever.

The narcissitic pride is that which is sinful, if you believe in such things.

Ahem!! If one reads the Bible thoroughly and with a concordance or two and pays ATTENTION to what has been written, you'll find something very intriguing! There are two types of pride. The first is to pride for a good days work. The second is that of greed and of possessions. I.E.: I have twenty cars, I am so proud of myself. I just finished that order for the new library, and I'm proud that I got it done under budget too! Now, which one is the good pride and which the bad pride? If you said #1 was the good pride, you need to go back to school. If you said #2, then you've got the right idea!

In almost every list Pride is considered the original and most serious of The Seven Deadly Sins, and indeed the ultimate source from which the others arise. It is identified as a desire to be more important or attractive than others, failing to give compliments to others though they may be deserving of them, and excessive love of self.
Therefore if you are seeking to omit pride, maybe you either misunderstand the seven deadly sins or you no longer have any 'use' for them in your life.

There is a difference in prides. You can be proud of your kids for their accomplishments, that isn't wrong. You can even be "proud to be an American" or whatever.

The sinful pride is when we put ourselves on a pedestal. When we think we are the best, that we are fully capable of running our own lives, and we know what is best for ourselves and others. It's the pride that pushes others away, and the pride that tries to negate Jesus' death on the cross.

No law will be omitted from the Bible. You have to look at the heart of the law, the spirit in which it was intended. The letter of the law is not around now, we live by grace, but the basic principles of the law are still in effect IMO.

I think Pride is a very general word, and one would need to research it's true origination.

As with almost anything pride (as perceived today) needs to be tendered with moderation. The problem with pride (as it's described in the Bible) is that it's 'puffed up'. It's the concept of putting ones self on a pedestal above everyone else (the quintessential narcissist).

I personally believe that having a sense of pride in ones appearance and accomplishments is very healthy, but it can be taken too far if it becomes all-consuming.

The point is that if you can no longer see the forest through the trees we have a problem. One must appreciate what they have in front of them and not expect perfection or work so veraciously to attain it that all else if forgotten.

Hi I am, If you don't have pride which a lot of people don't. We will have nothing. Pride gives us the thing we need to have nice things, clothes, nice house, car, and makes us proud of what we have done to get and keep these things. We do need pride to do all of these things. Sometimes pride keeps us from getting ourselves into trouble. It's just how you look at the word, and understand what it means to you. A Friend.

I think pride in this case refers to an attitude of personal superiority over others. It doesn't refer to being proud of your child, for example.

"as we are all proud of something or other"

Speak for yourself. It is only when one's self-esteem is inordinate is there a problem. Not everyone has a puffed-up opinion of themselves.

P. S. Vicarious pride, i.e. pride in one's child, is still pride.
