Many people are close-minded to new things or people that are different from them and what they like. It's an unfair stereotype that Gothic people have gotten, and others treat them as if they're not even people! I've gotten to meet many of them in my school, and they're very much like anyone else. I thought badly myself of them until I actually met some. They were very nice, and enjoyed the same things I did. They're not aliens, and some people just aren't open-minded enough to accept their differences. <3

Well I am sure you have heard the old saying "first impression." Well what do you think they see? A broody, young kid with a fetish for chains, tattoos, and black.
I think Mencia or some other comedian has said if you do not like the stereo type stop living it! Where do stereo types come from? Acute observations. Larry the cable guy is a stereo type of "red necks" well he could also come to any family BBQ at my house and no one would realize he was a comedian but a long lost family member with a good sense of style.
Why do you generalize in your term hate? No one has to hate you to not like you or even to give you a chance. I think you and most Goths are as guilty in reverse.
I find most forms of fashion as equally poor in taste if you wish to know the truth. I start most people off on the level I believe they are at and allow them to surprise me one way or the other. It is rare I am wrong. Conceited huh?

I don't think it's so much "hate" or "thinking badly" - it's more of "Why would someone want to do that to themselves?" (referring to piercings, ugly makeup, etc.)
I wear black all of the time, but I'm not a goth.
I think people always think that goth people have serious emotional issues and problems with the parents and that they're just "acting out" to get attention. The expressions that most goths have it also off putting. It's a look of "I'm superior to you.","I don't give a dam what you think.", "I don't care if I'm blocking your way sitting here on the sidewalk." "I'm too cool to be alive."
At some point everyone grows up and they realize it's not all about them...

the reasons they declare that they like the style. if you just like to look that way, that's one thing. but, you don't have to dress like that because you're upset and depressed or angry with the world. i'm upset, depressed and angry with the world and i don't look like that. it also seems to me (for the gothic type people i've known) that they think if a person looks average or preppy that they couldn't be depressed, angry or upset. does style really equal emotional state? do i need to have black hair to reflect the blackness in my soul? (i don't hate gothic people, by the way and i don't think badly about them, this is just something i've always wondered)

i think they do it because everyone has the right to form an opinion so they feel that if they say their opinion then it makes them look like a better person and hurt the other persons feelings. what i say about it is everyone can do what they want i can't judge them for the choice that they make. the people that oppose them have no other thing to do with their time, but ot question their actions.

Most people, myself included (sorry) associate 'goth' people with being destructive (self-mutilation) or worshiping Satan. Most people are religious, either Christian or Catholic, and obviously Satan and Satan-worshipers are the enemy.
