That'll be a negative. Depending on the part number of the distributor, you can purchase a new vacuum advance for around $15. You can even install it without removing the distributor. Good luck.

No. Besides the cap, rotor, and two (sometimes only one) screws, There might be a retaining 'C' clip on the actuating rod that will have to come off. You don't have to remove the distributor to do it but sometimes it is easier if you do. Just make sure it goes back in EXACTLY the same position (the rotor button) as it came out.

If you suspect your vacuum is at fault you can buy a new advance unit@ Napa,Auto Zone,Jegs or Summit has it. If you are wanting to say the heck with it like I did for my 305 and get a new one. There is a place on ebay that sells a brand new shiny aluminum distributor with brass terminals and red cap for $40.00 plus $15.00 shipping. It's "supposed" to be a high performance unit but it sure works great on my beater Chevy truck!
Hope this helps.

Have you checked for a vacuum leak in the lines first? If it is the unit in the distributor, It may be worth the extra cost (if any) to replace the entire distributor-the truck IS 22 years old.

You would be far better off to replace the entire distributer! Chevrolet distributors ware out after about 150,000 miles the bushings go and the shaft wobbles around and besides, they dont cost that much! I just replaced mine I got a rebuilt one at Checker auto parts and installed it my self in 30 min. And now I dont have to worry about it for the rest of the cars life! And you will save money in the long run!
